   Since the beginning of the Church, adults have been baptized. This is still the common practice both in mission countries and for people who have never been baptized. Adults preparing for the reception ofBaptism are called catechumens, and they follow a course of instruction known as the catechumenate or RCIA. (See CCC1246-1249).
